Eliza Gonzalez won the special K-1st grade category for the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Essay Contest. The contest was sponsored by the San Francisco Alliance of Black School Educators.  At the ceremony, Eliza read her essay and received a trophy for the special K-1st grade category.  She also received a certificate and a $25 award.

The essay topic contest brief:

"What does treating people equally mean?  Describe some examples of people not being treated equally.  What would you do at school to encourage your classmates to treat everyone equally?"

Eliza's essay:

Treating people equally means being a good friend.  Treating people equally means sharing scissors.  It means to be great at recycling.  I can draw somebody a drawing.  It also means to be respectful.  Do not be bossy to friends.  Don't trick people.  So, be nice when somebody is treating you nice.

STOP DROP GO!
NOTICE
DO NOT DOUBLE PARK
(either on 43rd in front of the gate or on Kirkham). This behavior is illegal, causes tremendous backups and is dangerous for other families arriving to school.
........
All parents dropping off should use the 43rd Avenue white zone.
The front entrance is now open.
This past year our school implemented the STOP DROP GO program designed to help alleviate traffic and safety concerns during the morning drop off time, 7:30-8:00 a.m.
Each morning at approximately 7:30 a.m. a parent volunteer sets cones out in the street along the white zone that runs in front of the school’s main entrance on 43rd Avenue. Parents pull their car up and a parent volunteer helps the child(ren) out of the cars and onto the school property.
We ask that parents do not leave their cars in the white zone while they take their child into school.
Like most Kindergarten parents, we understand that you want to be with your child and ensure safe and smooth transitions in the morning. For those parents who will be driving, we ask that you please find street parking, which is usually available on the surrounding blocks.
Thank you for keeping our school community safe
Please do your part and Volunteer!

Help your child succeed in school!

Recent studies have proven that children of parents who participate in their child's school perform better for the rest of their lives. Help make your child's school a better place and  make a lasting difference in their lives.
